Balanced prompts, 20 seconds each and a fresh shuffle every round.
Broad historical prompts with at least 120 accepted answers.
Ten-second decisions that train recall under pressure.
A date-seeded shared set for chasing seven 100-point picks.
The practice pool excludes today’s live prompt set and draws from 84 historical prompts with manageable answer lists. Your spelling is compared only with that prompt’s dated reveal. A match receives its recorded score; no match receives zero. The result is practice feedback, not a new official ruling.
The official Daily Dive is a shared one-attempt challenge. This companion mode is deliberately repeatable. It does not copy the official interface, leaderboard or submission flow; it turns already revealed historical data into a separate training task.

Classic is the baseline: seven varied prompts and enough time to move beyond the first obvious answer. Abyss limits the pool to broad prompts with at least 120 recorded answers, where category structure matters more than memorizing a short list. Speed cuts the clock to ten seconds and exposes whether your first reliable association is ready. Perfect 700 uses a date-seeded set, so players opening it on the same UTC date receive the same seven historical prompts.
Start with Classic if you are learning the scoring ladder. Use Speed only after you can produce an accepted fallback quickly; otherwise it trains empty guessing rather than controlled recall.
After each answer
A result shows the exact historical match, its recorded tier, points and added depth. When your pick scores below 100, the card also displays one top-tier answer from the same reveal. Compare the two by category: was the deeper answer from another region, subgenre, species family, time period or technical vocabulary?
That comparison is the useful practice loop. Keep a dependable fallback, identify one deeper branch, and try to recall from that branch on the next related prompt. A zero is also informative: check whether the issue was spelling, category fit, an answer absent from the reveal, or simply the timer.
Scores are stored only as a local best in your browser. There is no account, public leaderboard or server-side practice profile.
Quick answers
No. The practice pool excludes the current date and uses already revealed historical prompts. Today’s answer page is a separate, clearly labeled destination.
Practice follows the dated reveal exactly after conservative spelling normalization. It does not invent synonyms or override the source list.
No. Its deterministic seed changes with the UTC date. It is stable for that day, which makes same-day score comparisons more meaningful without creating a permanent quiz.
Only the best score for each mode is stored in localStorage. Clearing this site’s browser data removes those scores; answers and rounds are not sent to a practice account.
